Capture regular image

When using regular images for Scenes, you generally want to use a high-resolution image.

Nowadays, a regular smartphone produces a 12-megapixel image. If possible, get a camera (DSLR, mirrorless, or other) that can capture higher-resolution images.

You may ask, what is sufficient resolution for an image? It depends on your specific case.

Generally, you can use the following guideline:

If you have a camera with a smaller resolution (e.g. 12 megapixels), simply photograph the subject from a closer distance. For example, if you want to create a course where you will explain a circuit breaker panel, step closer to the circuit breaker panel and photograph it.

Zoom in to the picture and check how much you can read from the panel. If you can read the text by zooming in on your camera, you will also be able to read it when it’s uploaded to Panomio as a Scene.

If you use a camera with a higher resolution (e.g. 42 megapixels), you can step away from the circuit panel and photograph it with more surrounding objects (for example with more panels or other controllers). Higher resolution will allow you to zoom in on details, even if you are further from the object you photograph.
